The Blogging from A to Z Challenge is to post everyday (except Sunday) in the month of April 2016 starting with the letter A and going all the way to Z. The theme I chose is Genealogy Tips. At the end I will give a related post from my blog Genealogy: Beyond the BMD.
R is for Recording
I am so thankful that a couple of years ago I thought to put a recording app on my phone and on my iPad. Whenever I visited my Mom she liked to tell me stories of her childhood and of my grandparents, and great aunts and uncles. Now I have them all recorded.
She was famous for her little ditties, some quite raunchy, and I have quite a few of them recorded. Here is a tame one she recorded for me the day after her 90th birthday in August 2015.
Do you have recorded stories of your ancestors?

So precious - what a character.
ReplyDeleteThat she was, you have no idea..
DeleteWish I had more of my parents but do cherish What I did get long before the WWW, apps and super phones etc.
ReplyDeleteWhat I got of my mother over 20 years ago was 'lost' for several years and when I got a hard copy of it found I had answers to many of the questions.facts etc. I have dug up since getting involved in genealogy or still had questions to :D
Have found the same with the recording I did of Dad and my father-in-law :D
Lucky! Most of us didn't think that far ahead!
DeleteWhat a funny song! And no, I don't have recordings although my mother had recorded a spelling test when she was teaching, I suppose for students who had to take a make-up test, or maybe because she was tired of reading the words to 6 classes. We laughed at how serious and precise she was, but I'm pretty sure the tapes went into the trash.
ReplyDeleteAwwww too bad. I know a few kids these days who could use them lol
DeleteLove your Mother singing. My Mother is very shy and I could never get her to do such a thing. Don't have recordings of my parents but grandfather was an amateur photographer and took movies of my dad and his sisters in the 1920's. They are priceless(and silent, of course)
ReplyDeletePretty much every photo of Mom at a gathering, her mouth is open in song. When I was a teen I realized she wasn't that great but she didn't care, she loved to sing and did it with gusto!
DeleteWhen us kids were all older my Dad put all our home movies on VHS (with added music) and gave us each a copy. What a hoot! I guess I better get it transferred to something more modern, even tho I'm never tossing my VCR
