Joined the Canada Militia in Kingston Ontario in 1855 at the age of 18. He was promoted to Lieutenant of the No.3 Company, Kingston on November 21, 1862

Geroge was given permission to retire with his rank of Major on 22 Jan 1870, by Militia General Orders, posted in the Canada Gazette Vol 3, No 30.
George is my 2nd great uncle. When he retired from the militia he worked as a bookkeeper for his brother Thomas' Merchant Tailor business.
